Search Engine Optimization. Big words!
How do the search engines find your web site?
What do they look for on your site, on your pages?

There are critical elements to your web site that will help search engines find you. Listed are some that we focus on:

Meta Tags
What are meta tags? Meta tags are key words or phrases found in the html code of your web pages. There are 3 types of meta tags that we focus on.

  • Title Meta Tag: The title meta tag appears at the very top of your browser window. The title tag of your page is one of the most important pieces of your page. The search engines use it as one of the main places to find keywords that relate to your page, and often as the link to your page from their engine. It's very important to optimize it properly. The title tag for each page should be similar in wording and phrasing to the other meta tags and content on your pages.
  • Keyword Meta Tag: The keyword meta tag is meant to include all the keywords that relate to your page. Since some search engines use this tag to help determine what your page is about you should always include your keywords in it. The keyword meta tag for each page should be similar in wording and phrasing to the other meta tags and content on your pages.
  • Description Meta Tag: The description meta tag is meant to describe what your page is about. Some search engines use this tag to help determine how to list your site, and many use it as the description of your page in their engine. All pages should have an accurate description meta tag with relevant keywords within it.

Body Text
The less words you have on your site, the less there is for the search engines to search. Where possible, all web pages should have 200 words of readable page copy (text). Since all search engines use your page copy as a major factor in determining how to list your site we recommend having a minimum of 200 words on any page possible. It my not be practical to have 200 words on the "Contact" page of your site, but do it wherever you can.

Body Text, 4 Word Rule
The search engines index the text on your site and look for important keywords when determining your listings. Therefore, it's important to include any keywords you wish to have show up in the search engines rankings in your page copy at least 4 times each. (Use the same keywords or phrases found in the title, keyword and description meta tags)

There are many other items to consider when optimizing your web pages for the search engines. We would be glad to help you with your SEO.
